Description

My name is Winston T. Cope, M.D., and I have a telemedicine practice in anti-aging in the state of Florida. Here is a synopsis of my background:

I graduated from Oberlin College in Ohio in 1968 with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, and from the University of Florida with an M.D. degree in 1972. My internship was in Straight Medicine at the University of Miami’s Jackson Memorial Hospital.  In late 1973 I joined the United States Navy for two years. The first 6 months was for cold-weather training, and I spent the next 12 months at the Amundsen-Scott South Pole station. I served as the Executive Officer and Medical Officer meriting the Winter-Over Antarctic Service medal. For the last 6 months of my active duty I was stationed at the emergency department at the Orlando Naval Training Center.  Following in my parents’ footsteps, and seduced by the beauty of eye surgery, I then took a residency in ophthalmology at Duke University. In late 1978 I returned to my native St. Petersburg, Florida, to join my mother in her ophthalmology practice, performing mainly cataract surgery, and treating eye diseases.  Given my background in internal medicine, I was able to treat problems more effectively by considering the eye in the context of the whole body. Over the years I saw many patients lose their sight to the disease macular degeneration, and I became interested in the aging process.  In 2005 I was certified by the Cenegenics® Medical Institute in Age Management Medicine, and was recertified in 2013. I started to practice antiaging medicine in 2005, and was seeing patients mainly on a private house-call basis. Lately, however, the rapidly developing telemedicine capability has allowed me to transform sitting-in-traffic time into patient contact time, cutting the cost for these patients.  So I have a pretty busy life: I see eye patients at the Eye Institute of West Florida in Largo, weight-loss and hormone replacement patients in Brandon at the Nuviva and BioDesign offices, and strictly antiaging patients during the remaining hours via telemedicine. It’s all fun and challenging!
