He is certified in Clinical Tropical Medicine and Travelers’ Health from the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and certified in Travel Medicine from the International Society of Travel Medicine. He is also listed in the annual editions of the Guide to America’s Top Physicians and is a New York Super Doctor in internal medicine. Dr. Primas has also been chosen as one of the Top Docs in Concierge Medicine annually since 2012.Dr. Primas is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, an honor achieved by their peers for personal integrity, superior competence in internal medicine, professional accomplishment and demonstrated scholarship. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Preventive Medicine and is dedicated to promoting health and reducing the risks of preventable disease, injury and disability. He is a Clinical Instructor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and an Attending Physician in the Department of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital and Beth Israel Medical Center.Dr. Primas first realized the power of prevention when he was a resident in internal medicine and saw the overwhelming majority of patients who were hospitalized were there because of behavioral and lifestyle choices that were less than optimal due to poor health literacy. This realization was further reinforced after working for many years in the inner cities of New York, Chicago and San Diego working with underserved patients who desperately needed health literacy in the food deserts they were living in. The disparities that exist in all communities need to be addressed by health education especially among young people to establish lifelong healthy behaviors to ultimately reduce the burden of the modern chronic diseases that plague all societies.Dr. Primas’ training in travel medicine and tropical diseases has also put him on the forefront of emerging diseases. He has been a media contributor when HIV first arrived as well as SARS, MERS, multidrug resistant tuberculosis, Ebola, Chikungunya, Zika, anthrax, Lyme and now SARS-CoV-2. He was also instrumental in the diagnosing and treating and curing two patients with bubonic plague in 2002 and assisted his hospital in developing protocols for handling level 4 biohazard specimens.Dr. Primas is board certified by The American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. Blending the best of Western & Eastern medical concepts, Dr. Primas utilizes both modalities in preventing and treating illness. Dr. Primas emphasizes promoting health, preventing illness and raises awareness of dis-ease in our lives rather than merely managing symptoms. He is a firm believer in the WHO definition of health; Health is a state of complete physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being and not merely the absence of dis-ease or infirmity. His use of both traditional and complementary/integrative/holistic medicine like acupuncture, qigong, exercise and nutrition focus on the whole patient and his/her relation to their environment and specific individual needs. In addition to using traditional medications to treat a variety of maladies, Dr. Primas supplements treatment with natural medications as well.Dr. Primas is always on the cutting edge of medicine and is now guiding his patients using genomics with whole genome sequencing, epigenetics, methylation testing (aging clock), multi cancer early detection tests, whole body MRI scans,  microbiome analysis and telomere length analysis for a more detailed, personal approach to their health. He firmly believes that this approach not only extends the human lifespan, but significantly improves the quality of one’s life (healthspan). He encourages and supports his patients’ quest for optimal health by guiding them through the myriad of results from their genomic and epigenetic profiles, microbiome and telomere analysis, reviewing their data from personal health tracking devices and apps and advising them on how to best interpret the data and make it useful and actionable. Dr Primas also incorporates innovative modalities for aging deceleration like NAD+ therapies, fasting/time restricted eating, fasting mimicking diets, prescription geroprotectors and senotherapeutic medications. He also offers stem cell banking for future use and is involved with clinical trials in longevity.Dr. Primas practices what he preaches. He believes that physicians should be active role models to improve the lives of patients and ultimately the community as well.  While encouraging his patients to live a healthy lifestyle, he exercises daily and eats a nutritionally dense, organic (mostly local) and balanced diet congruent with the ancestral health movement which Dr. Primas has personally seen benefits in many of his patients using the Primal Primal Protocol. He is also a biohacker and is a pioneer in the quantified self movement, tracking and using his data to continuously improve and maintain his health.  Dr. Primas, in addition to incorporating nutrition and cardiovascular, strength training, balance training and flexibility exercises, participates in regular stress reduction by engaging in qigong meditation. To achieve overall health, studies show that the best way to prevent and treat the overwhelming majority of illnesses that plague our communities today is to exercise regularly, eat a nutritionally sound diet, get proper sleep, stay in tune with a circadian rhythm and engage in some form of stress reduction technique.Dr. Primas is a contributing consultant to Natural Geographic Traveler, Self, Health, Manhattan Living and Forbes magazines as a travel medicine expert. He has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The International Herald Tribune, New York Resident, CNN, Good Morning America, The Discovery Channel, ABC News, CBS, CBS World News, Extra TV, NY1, USA Today, Newsday and Fox News on traveler’s health related issues, medically related news and celebrity health issues.Dr. Primas has also had guest appearances on Making the Band I, II, and IV, Making the Cut, Band in a Bubble, Kimora: Life in the Fab Lane, the Food Network Channel, Insomniac with Dave Atell, Richard E.
