Description

Gastrointestinal diseases are a substantial cause of mortality and illness in the United States, with up to 70 million Americans affected annually. As of 2010, 21.7 million hospitalizations occurred due to digestive disorders, while 245,921 deaths occurred in 2009 due to related diseases. Furthermore, select gastrointestinal diseases are known to have a heavy impact on the quality of life as there are few curative therapies.

This two-day workshop will provide the latest information regarding the links between gastrointestinal health and disease manifestations. Presentations will focus on GI disorders but will extend to all organ systems that may be affected by gut-associated immunological triggers, such as stress, diet, infections, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Presentations will be led by clinicians and experts in their respective fields who are involved both in clinical and research activities.
