This module provides a functional overview of hormonal changes that manifest in men & women with aging, including the functions & interplay of specific hormones in the body. It discusses how best to identify, test for & treat hormonal deficiencies & dysfunctions, such as with hormone replacement & medication compounding.

  • Prescribe or suggest treatment for hormone replacement including compounded thyroid medications
  • Investigate the importance of measuring tissue level of hormones, in diagnosing hormonal imbalances & in monitoring bio-identical hormone replacement
  • Discuss the advantages & disadvantages of testing hormone levels in different body fluids
  • Evaluate the urine monitoring of hormone levels & metabolites. Specific algorithms will be shared to facilitate ease of use in clinical practice

Jennifer Landa, MD, FMNM, ABAARM, OB/Gyn specializes in helping women and men balance their hormones, restore their energy, and replenish their sex lives. At the heart of her practice is the belief that maintaining one’s health is hard work and she encourages her patients to make lifestyle changes that will result in increased health.

Dr. Landa’s focused, energetic, and straightforward style comes across well when she speaks in front of groups and on camera. She lectures nationally on preventive medicine and has appeared on national and local television. Dr. Landa just completed her first book with co-author Virginia Hopkins. Their book, The Sex Drive Solution for Women, is a no-nonsense approach to many of the sex drive issues that Dr. Landa addresses with her patients every day.

Dr. Alison McAllister is passionate about medical education and enjoys teaching both colleagues and patients. She is a clinical consultant at ZRT laboratory and also works in her own private practice. She graduated from Smith College in Northampton, MA, and later received her naturopathic medical doctorate in 1999 at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon. She has done advanced work in midwifery as well as doing a 3 year residency in integrative oncology. On a nice summer day, Dr, McAllister can be found digging in her garden with her young daughter.

Jack Monaco, MD, FABOG, FMNM, received his MD from the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in North Carolina. He completed a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology and practiced this specialty until 2007. He is Fellowship trained and Board Certified in Anti-Aging, Functional & Regenerative Medicine. At The Monaco Center for Health & Healing, he and his trained staff help his patients achieve health & wellness. He is an Oral Board Examiner for A4M and lectures throughout the United States.

Pamela Wartian Smith, M.D., MPH, MS spent her first twenty years of practice as an emergency room physician with the Detroit Medical Center and then the next twenty years as an Anti-Aging/Functional Medicine specialist. She is a diplomat of the Board of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Physicians and is an internationally known speaker and author on the subject of Metabolic, Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine. She also holds a Master’s in Public Health Degree along with a Master’s Degree in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine.

She has been featured on CNN, PBS, and many other television networks, has been interviewed in numerous consumer magazines, and has hosted two of her own radio shows. She is a regular contributor for Fox News Radio. Dr. Smith is currently the Director of the Center for Personalized Medicine and the founder of The Fellowship in Anti-Aging, Regenerative, and Functional Medicine. Dr. Smith is also the co-director of the Master’s Program in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine at the Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida. In addition, she is the Director of Medical Education for the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Dr. Sahar Swidan obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Michigan and then she completed a 3 year research fellowship in Bio-Pharmaceutics at the University of Michigan. She previously was the Director of Pharmacy at Chelsea Community Hospital and the clinical pharmacist for the inpatient head and chronic pain service. Currently she is President & CEO of Pharmacy Solutions in Ann Arbor, MI which is a unique, personal and educational specialty pharmacy and Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan, College of Pharmacy.

Dr. Swidan is board certified and an advanced fellow in anti-aging and regenerative medicine. Dr. Swidan is an internationally known speaker in the areas of pain management and BHRT and she has authored several books, articles and patient education material in the area of pain management and functional medicine. Currently, she is completing a Master’s program in Cardio-Metabolic and Functional Medicine.

Filomena Trindade, MD, MPH, ABAARM, ABFM, FMNM is a teacher, author, and international speaker in functional medicine. She is a graduate of the fellowship in Anti-Aging, Regenerative and Functional Medicine and teaches in the Fellowship (a Master’s program through the Morsani School of Medicine, University of South Florida).

In addition, she is faculty at the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). After obtaining her BA degree in Biology she went on to finish a Master’s in Public Health in the area of environmental health and epidemiology before starting medical school. She graduated first in her class in family practice from the University of California Davis School of Medicine and did her residency training in family practice at the U.C. San Francisco/Santa Rosa Program. She has been in clinical practice for over 20 years. Before starting her own private practice in 2004 in functional medicine she was the medical director of a non-profit organization that catered to the underserved. Her work has been published in Townsend Letter, Guide to Anti-Aging & Regenerative Medicine, Saúde Actual, and the Border Health Journal among others.
