Description

Mary E. Miller-Wilson, a board-certified adult nurse practitioner, became a registered nurse in 2006 and went on to complete her master's degree in 2010 at the University of Michigan. She worked on a cardiothoracic unit at the Detroit Medical Center while completing her graduate studies. Upon graduating as a nurse practitioner, she worked in a suburban hospital setting as a hospitalist. It was in this traditional healthcare environment that she began to experience a profound paradigm shift in the way she viewed illness, wellness and the treatment of chronic disease conditions. Because the cornerstone of the nurse practitioner profession is that of health promotion and disease prevention, she soon became disillusioned with the traditional health care model and the "pill for every ill" mentality that drives the current healthcare system.

While in graduate school, Mary became a patient in a local Functional Medicine practice in suburban Detroit where she was exposed firsthand to the tenets of Functional Medicine; an emphasis on healthy lifestyle choices, sound nutrition, daily exercise and stress reduction. She ultimately joined this practice and has undergone extensive training in both Functional Medicine (IFM) and Anti-Aging Medicine (Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine) for four years. She was recruited for the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine by Dr. Mark Hyman and continued to expand upon her experience for 2 1/2 years in both functional Medicine and Anti-Aging Medicine. She became certified in Functional Medicine in 2017.

Over the last seven years, Mary's approach to health has always been based on a melding of Functional Medicine and Anti-Aging Medicine, looking for the underlying root cause of disease and assisting patients in being proactive about their health. Her understanding of Functional Medicine as unique and personalized allows her to assess all aspects of a patient's lifestyle; genetics, environment, emotions, beliefs and social relationships, all of which influence health and disease.

Mary specializes in bio-identical hormone therapy (for both men and women across the health continuum), autoimmune conditions, metabolic syndrome/diabetes, thyroid optimization, anxiety/depression, gut restoration, detoxification (heavy metals, mold exposure), headaches, weight management, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia.

Mary's personal interests include public speaking, spinning, pilates and running after her three grandchildren!
