Marc Abreu, MD

M. Marc Abreu, MD is a medical doctor, physicist, and ophthalmologist. He is a former fellow and former faculty at Harvard University and former faculty and director of the BTT Interdisciplinary Research Group at Yale University. In addition, He specializes in medical physics, bioengineering, medical device development, ophthalmic research, anesthesiology research, computer science, and neuroscience. At Harvard, Dr. Abreu worked on the research and development of lasers sponsored by the US Department of Defense and the US Air Force (Grant AF29601-95-C-0198). Dr. Abreu also worked on the development of diagnostics and medical technologies in association with private and public institutions, including the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Giant Electronics of Hong Kong in association with the Chinese Ministry of Technology, the U.S. Fire Administration and Connecticut Fire Academy, Embrapa of the Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture, and the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany. Some of Dr. Abreu’s technologies were licensed by the Swiss conglomerate Nestle SA, the largest food company in the world, and Alcon Laboratories, Inc., the largest ophthalmic company in the world. Dr. Abreu also developed the first FDA-approved computer system for continuous temperature measurement during surgery, intensive care, and general monitoring in association with ASUS Corporation. This system utilizes a micro sensor positioned on the BTT skin surface that measures brain temperature. The device renders the most accurate and true body temperature without corrective factors found in other digital and infrared thermometers. He has also developed proprietary thermal measurement systems, devices, and applications based on the BTT. In 2003, Dr. Marc Abreu discovered a site between the bridge of the nose and the eyelid that leads directly to the brain’s hypothalamus. He would go on to refer to this as the Brain Thermal Tunnel (BTT). By placing sensors over the Brain Thermal Tunnel, he is able to non-invasively and continuously measure the brain’s thermodynamics (temperature fluctuations). For the first time in history, the Brain Thermal Tunnel’s device provides unique access to previously unknown information and knowledge about the brain. Dr. Abreu is now the medical director at BTT Medical Institute for Brain-guided Advanced Hyperthermia, the only center in the world offering Brain-guided advanced hyperthermia for cancer treatment and prevention controlled by BTT technology.
