Dr. González is an Integrative and Functional Medicine physician professionally born out of the necessity to optimize patient care. A graduate of the University of Arizona College of Medicine, he served in both the Air Force and the Army with multiple overseas deployments, including a year-long tour in Iraq as Chief of the busiest trauma center at the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003. Known as one of our U. S. Military’s leading emergency medicine and trauma physicians, he taught medicine at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where he earned Teacher of the Year in 2003. In 2007 Dr. González retired after 24 years of Active Duty Service, receiving multiple citations including the Air Medal and the Bronze Star. Recognizing the need for emphasis on disease prevention rather than waiting for a disease to occur, he founded the Atlantis Medical Wellness Center, where he has developed and honed an integrative and functional medicine practice based on a systems biology approach in optimizing an individual’s health.

Dr. González is one of the leading experts in Metabolic and Obesity Medicine developing and designing health coach and physician weight loss certification programs. His background in genetics and nutrition, obesity medicine, hormone evaluation and replacement therapy, age management, and metabolic medicine combine to give him a powerful perspective for weight loss and sustained metabolism maintenance. Dr. González has a unique perspective and passion for Women’s Health. He is known as a powerful Medical Feminist pushing for improved care for women in a gender biased medical health care system.

Dr. González continues to teach other physicians in Emergency and Trauma Care, Functional Medicine, Medical Nutrition, Laser Surgery Techniques, Weight and Metabolism Management, and Hormone evaluation and optimization, The Truths and Myths of Supplements, Medicine and Nutrition in Diet, and of course, Women’s Health. His teachings have benefited thousands of physicians and other medical providers to improve their skills in helping their patients. His book on gender bias in the health care system “The Athena Factor” to be released by mid-summer 2024, outlines the issues of medical mismanagement in women’s health.

Dr. González’s private life includes multiple martial arts awards and holds multiple Black Belts in Karate, Tae Kwon Do, and Kung Fu. He is a concert violinist, an instrument-rated private pilot, studied linguistics in his former Air Force career, and teacher in each of these skills. He emphasizes an overall optimal and functional approach to an individual’s health at any age. Preventing disease before it happens is his mantra. Dr. González teaches other health care providers at the national and international levels the skills to integrate both evidence-based and experience-based medicine.
