Description

Dr. West-Ky Abrams was born and raised in South Florida. As a child, Dr. Abrams knew he wanted to be a doctor and heal people, and to pay for college, at 17 years of age, he was the youngest commodities broker to receive his Series 3 trading license.

He received his undergraduate degree in Psychology from Florida International University and a Doctor of Osteopathy from Nova Southeastern University Medical School in 2000.  He completed residency at Genesys Medical Center in Flint, Michigan and Broward General Hospital in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Early in his clinical practice, Dr. Abrams knew that something very important was unbalanced. He realized that he and his colleagues medical training had been dominated by an almost exclusively pharmaceutical approach to managing acute disease and focused little on how to achieve health, especially with complex chronic disease.

In 2012, he lost his very independent mother to Alzheimer’s Disease. When the specialists told him there was nothing they could do, he felt helpless and disenchanted and began to seek answers as to why patients in our traditional healthcare system do not truly get well.  So, while practicing family medicine full time, he persevered and sought out additional medical training and certifications in Functional Medicine, nutrition, integrative and holistic medicine, health coaching, systems biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and precision medicine.

He is Board Certified in Family Practice (AOBFP) and one of the very few doctors in the country who graduated, completed fellowships, and received Functional Medicine Certifications from the largest and most well-respected international organizations in the world, The American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M) and The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). With all his knowledge, he is in the process of bringing Functional Medicine Wellness programs to his patients. This science-based, whole body approach complements traditional care and can truly improve and optimize patient health, their overall wellness, their vitality and extend the longevity of their life.

His goal is to empower his community to reach their full potential in their health and wellness and inspire them to become the best version of themselves so that together, they can achieve optimal health and longevity and make a positive difference in the world. His friendly, humorous, easy-going humility, enthusiasm, and compassion makes learning fun for his patients and lights the way for their healing journey. He truly listens to his patients, has honest conversations, and involves them in the decision-making process.

As an avid learner, Dr. Abrams is currently studying for his ReCODE Certification in Cognitive Decline/Brain Health. Currently, Dr. Abrams treats a wide range of conditions and has special expertise in men and women’s hormonal health, gut health, and brain health.

Dr. Abrams is very happily married with three children, two of whom are also Nova Sharks.  He received his Black Belt in Tiger & Dragon Kung Fu, a Red Belt in Tae Kwon Do.  In his spare time, he loves to lift weights and is an ardent reader. A natural computer guru, he is responsible for setting up and maintaining the server, all networking, software, and hardware applications for both medical practices.
