The A4M/MMI Weight Symposium focuses on the fundamentals of metabolism management and nutritional dietary guidance for sustained weight loss. The course will review protocols and practices designed to assist healthcare practitioners in practicing effective weight management for patients. Participants will be instructed in individualized weight management strategies, in addition to an overview of comprehensive weight loss skills and techniques—including a discussion of weight management as related to lipid testing and diabetes diagnosis. The final interactive session of the course will allow participants to collaboratively discuss pragmatic and practical aspects of weight loss programs, and the ways in which to effectively integrate health-centered components into their respective practices.

Learning Objectives

  • Review approaches to metabolism management & programs engineered towards weight loss
  • Discuss 3 specific base diet start-up programs for a Weight Management Practice
  • Assess the role of medications in metabolism, understand secondary causes of weight gain from medications and supplements and better options for management of diabetes
  • Evaluate recent cardiovascular outcomes studies for diabetes medications
  • Evaluate advanced lipid testing and genetic testing for use in determining root cause of weight gain in guiding both diet and medication treatment decisions

Dr. Tara Dall is a board certified lipidologist with roots in family medicine and training at the University of Wisconsin Madison. She is a national thought leader in biomarker and genetic testing having spent the last 15 years using advanced biomarker testing in the clinical care of patients. She graduated in the inaugural class of Diplomates of the American Board of Clinical Lipidology in 2005. Her center achieved national recognition as the first fully certified Level II lipid clinic in the United States. She served on the Midwest Lipid Association executive board for 5 years with positions of treasurer, secretary and president elect in 2011-2012.

In 2008, Dr. Dall formed the Early Detection Center for heart disease and diabetes near Madison, Wisconsin and served as a clinical associate professor for the Medical College of Wisconsin. Two years later, she brought her fight against heart disease to the web co-founding Lecturepad.com, web platform that advance clinical understanding and application of advanced lipid and biomarker testing.

For 3 years Dr. Dall served as Chief Medical Officer of a Health Diagnostic laboratory. As an author and educator on biomarker research focused on the role that insulin resistance plays in diabetes prevention she has expanded the education of physicians to prevent chronic disease. She has a special interest in insulin resistance's role in cardiovascular disease, womens heart disease, Autoimmune disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome, and obesity. She is philosophically aligned with the functional medicine movement believing in importance of identifying root causes of chronic disease and non-traditional approaches to care. She also serves as chief of cardiometabolic education at the non-profit Foundation for Health Improvement and Technology (FHIT) and on the scientific advisory board of the Lupus Foundation.

Known for her passionate delivery of complex medical topics in patient-friendly terms, Dr. Dall is a sought after speaker, traveling the world to present research on advanced biomarkers. She is also a regular go-to for reporters, appearing on Bloomberg News, CBS Sports, CNN Radio, Reach MD Satellite Radio, and RadioHealth Journal. She was a regular guest on KTXD-TV's The Broadcast in Dallas, as well as programs on wabcradio.com (Optimal wellness and Forever Young). She continues to practice medicine as a physician founder of AvanceMD Concierge which incorporates cutting edge web based technology and virtual medicine platform (MD21.com) providing services to local as well as national and international clients.

Benjamin Gonzalez, MD, better known as “Dr. G”, is Medical Director of Atlantis Medical Wellness Center. He has been on the leading edge of medicine since graduating from the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He is a Board Certified physician with a background in Molecular Genetics and Nutrition. Dr. Gonzalez is renowned for his expertise in Clinical Nutrition with a focus on Exercise Nutrition and Weight Management and is trained in the advanced techniques of Hormone Replacement Therapy, Aesthetic and Age Management, Integrative, and Functional Medicine.

He has multiple certifications in advanced laser surgery, laser assisted and ultrasound-assisted liposuction and is a Member of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He has been practicing these techniques for over 10 years and teaches his techniques to other practitioners.

Dr. Gonzalez spent 15 years as an Emergency Medicine staff physician at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and Associate Professor at Hershey Penn State Medical Center teaching his craft to other physicians. His love for helping others led him to serve 24 years active military service, including a year-long tour in Iraq as Chief of the busiest trauma center during the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has earned multiple awards including The Bronze Star and Teacher of the Year at Penn State Hershey Medical Center.

Dr. Gonzalez continues to teach other physicians on the subjects of Emergency and Trauma Care, Functional Medicine, Nutrition Care from the Physician’s Perspective, Laser Surgery Techniques, Weight Management, and The Truths and Myths of Supplements and Nutrition in Diet.

Dr. Gonzalez believes in the overall holistic approach to maintaining your health that includes proper nutrition, exercise, and well-being. He practices what he preaches by participating in triathlons, foot races, Kettlebell Competitions and holds 1st Degree Black Belts in Karate and Tae Kwon Do and 2nd Degree Black Belt in Kung Fu. He recently challenged a 25-year old Cross Fit Instructor to a fitness duel. His caring and gentle treatment has earned him a reputation as a physician who truly cares about his patients’ overall health.

Dr. Tager combines his business knowledge with his organizational development and communication skills to help physician groups; as well as stem cell, pharmaceutical, cosmeceutical, nutraceutical, and clinical laboratory companies better market their products. He brings a strong background of aesthetic, integrative, and regenerative medicine knowledge to his work. His unique skillset lies in the ability to develop strategy and then create messages and communication programs for both healthcare providers and consumers.

His current clinical interest centers around innovative approaches to weight loss.

He is author or co-author of multiple books including Enhance Your Presence: The Path to Personal Power, Professional Influence and Business Results (with Robert John Hughes), and Total Engagement: The Healthcare Practitioner’s Guide to Heal Yourself, Your Patients and Your Practice (with Mimi Guarneri, MD).

Dr. Tager did his undergraduate and medical training at Duke University and family practice at the University of Oregon Health Sciences Center.
