Dr. Simon Idris Beshir is a distinguished interventional cardiologist based in Windhoek, Namibia. He currently serves as Consultant Interventional Cardiologist and Head of Adult Cardiac Services at the Sacred Heart Cardiac Centre, located within the Roman Catholic Hospital. Since relocating to Namibia in 2012, Dr. Beshir has played a pivotal role in transforming the nation’s cardiac care landscape.

A graduate of Charles University in Prague (MD, 1990), he specialized in internal medicine and cardiology, earning board certifications in 2000 and 2005 respectively. His commitment to excellence earned him fellowships with the European Society of Cardiology (FESC, 2007), the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCP, 2009), and the American College of Cardiology (FACC, 2012).

Dr. Beshir’s international experience spans across Africa and Europe, with senior roles at Princess Marina Hospital (Botswana), The Cardiac Centre (Nigeria), and Kings Mill Hospital (UK). In Namibia, he performs over 1,500 cardiac procedures annually and manages more than 4,000 outpatient consultations per year. His leadership has significantly reduced the need for Namibians to seek cardiac procedures abroad.

He is also the driving force behind two major healthcare infrastructure projects:

• Sacred Heart Mother & Child Hospital – Namibia’s first specialized maternal and pediatric facility
• Cardiac Centre at Nightingale Private Hospital – a new high-tech interventional cardiology unit in Windhoek

Dr. Beshir continues to mentor junior clinicians, implement quality improvement systems, and drive innovation in patient-centered cardiac care.
