More than 6 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's, with one in nine people aged 65 and older (11.3%) having Alzheimer's dementia. Yet while brain and mood disorders continue to accelerate, our current standard of care is not adequately slowing down the rates of neuroinflammation.
Clinical research has demonstrated that aging is not a uniform process and certain aspects of the nervous system have age-related vulnerabilities which cause the problems that are responsible for failures of the 4M’s of brain health: Memory, Mood, Mobility, Mojo
All of these changes can be understood as a failure of multiple systems (memory loss, depressed or anxious mood, slowing of movements and falling and a general loss of motivation, vivacity, and sexual function) that can be individually improved for optimal brain health.
Rooted in the most groundbreaking research available and developed in direct response to the current neurological medical crisis, the Brain Health Summit will review these major aspects of brain function and address the common clinical issues encountered in daily practice. This cutting-edge meeting will feature the field’s most esteemed clinicians, researchers, and educators presenting the latest clinical knowledge through a practical format that you can integrate into your clinical care approach by Monday morning.

The field of omics is a rapidly evolving, multi-disciplinary, and emerging one that encompasses genomics, epigenomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. Each of these individual fields offers the possibility to understand and personalize patient care in a way that was previously unthinkable.
Research has demonstrated how epigenetics play a critical role in turning genes on and off—illustrating that a person's genes need not define their medical future. But how can clinicians practically make use of this knowledge? A few years ago obtaining a patient’s genomic sequence was cost-prohibitive and the clinical application was not detailed based on the genetic information obtained. But today real clinical applications and guidance are available to improve patient health and wellbeing.
During this workshop participants will examine these cutting-edge applications as well as the quickly evolving research surrounding the science of omics.
Omics: The Next Revolution in Medicine
It is estimated that over 100 million Americans suffer from chronic pain— accounting for more patients than diabetes, coronary heart disease, and cancer combined. While acute pain is a normal sensation triggered in the nervous system to alert of injury, chronic pain is different in that it is persistent and keeps pain signals firing in the nervous system for an extended amount of time. The total incremental cost of pain ranges from $560-$635 billion in the United States alone, which combines medical healthcare costs and economic costs related to disability days and lost wages/productivity. Sadly, it is estimated that 50-75% of patients die in moderate to severe pain. The quality of life impact is also widespread: a recent survey showed that 59% of respondents said pain impacted their overall enjoyment of life, 77% reported feeling depressed, and 70% said they have trouble concentrating.
The purpose of this workshop is to review the fundamental diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to pain management in a functional medicine treatment paradigm. Fittingly, the use of cannabinoids in the treatment of pain syndromes will also be reviewed along with the regulatory status of appropriate use.

Medicine is currently at a crossroads. In medicine, a protocol approach has historically been used. The science is now here to individualize and customize a patient’s care, and also to assess the etiology of the problem—not solely treating the symptoms.
The science is currently available to measure hormone levels, amino acids, fatty acids, organic acids, and neurotransmitters. New studies and medical therapies to aid in the evaluation of the patient’s gastrointestinal tract have been developed. Each medication that is prescribed by a healthcare provider potentially causes a nutritional depletion that has not been previously assessed in the field of medicine. We now have the capability to measure more than 35 nutrients in the body, and supplement the patient with the nutrients that are individualized to their specific needs based on environment and their own genetic histories.
This workshop has been created to fill gaps of knowledge, and to assist in transitioning the practitioner from a protocol driven treatment system to scientifically based treatment modalities, that are designed to provide customized care to patients.
"This was an amazing, information-packed course! I have worked with complex patients in my practice for the past 20 years, and only expected to get little tidbits out of this class...but I came away with over 20 typed pages of clinical pearls that I have put to use, and seen results immediately. Thank you A4M for pulling this fantastic staff of professionals together. It was priceless!"
