Michael S. Joyner, MD, MBA, PhD, is the Founder of the ProAging Longevity Lab & Vitality Center, a physician-led longevity and performance optimization platform designed for high performers, executives, athletes, physicians, and individuals seeking a more strategic approach to aging, resilience, and long-term health. Known professionally as Dr. Michael J, Dr. Joyner brings a rare combination of clinical medicine, surgical precision, military discipline, business training, positive sport psychology, and longevity-focused education to his work in human optimization.
Dr. Joyner is a fellowship-trained hand and microsurgeon with extensive experience in complex hand, wrist, nerve, tendon, and reconstructive surgery. His surgical background provides the foundation for his precision-based approach to longevity medicine: measure carefully, identify the true problem, develop a personalized strategy, and execute with discipline. He has practiced in both Nebraska and Florida, serving patients across diverse clinical settings while building a broader platform focused on healthspan, performance, and proactive aging.
A Los Angeles native and Loyola High School alumnus, Dr. Joyner completed undergraduate studies at UC Berkeley and Howard University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine as a United States Army Health Professions Scholarship recipient. He completed his general surgery internship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center while serving on active duty in the United States Army. He later served as a U.S. Army surgeon and General Medical Officer, completing his military service as a U.S. Army Major.
Dr. Joyner completed postgraduate training in General Surgery at Morehouse School of
Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident at Grady Memorial Hospital. He then completed fellowship training in hand and microsurgery at the Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery through the University of Louisville. His additional international exposure includes observational microsurgery training at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan.
In addition to his medical and surgical training, Dr. Joyner earned an MBA in Sports Management and a PhD in Positive Sport Psychology. He is also an author of multiple books, including works focused on performance, longevity, personal development, and children’s storytelling. This interdisciplinary foundation shapes his work with individuals who want to extend not only lifespan, but also performance capacity, cognitive resilience, metabolic health, physical strength, and purposeful identity across the aging process.
Through the ProAging Longevity Lab & Vitality Center, Dr. Michael J offers structured programs focused on recovery, resilience, metabolic longevity, waistline management, mental performance, and human optimization. His model integrates advanced diagnostics, physician-led interpretation, supplement and medication optimization when appropriate, peptide-informed strategies, coaching, and performance accountability.
Dr. Michael J’s philosophy is grounded in the belief that longevity should be actively managed with the same seriousness as financial wealth, athletic performance, and professional success. His guiding principle, “Longevity is the Ultimate Currency,” reflects his mission to help individuals live selectively, perform grounded, and manage their healthspan with precision, purpose, and strategic intent.
