Wellness Redefined
My name is Dr. Kristin Makinajyan, and I was born in Armenia—a country rich in history, resilience, and strength. Though I was born far from where I would eventually plant roots, the spirit of my heritage has always stayed with me. I grew up in Pasadena, California, a city thatblended opportunity with diversity and helped shape the perspective I carry with me both personally and professionally.
From an early age, I knew I was drawn to caring for others. That desire to serve only deepened as I grew older, guiding me down the path of nursing and eventually, advanced clinical practice. I earned my Bachelor's degree in Nursing, followed by a Master's in Nursing Education. I thenpursued dual graduate degrees—a Master's in Family Nurse Practitioner and ultimately, a Doctor of Nursing Practice.
Over the course of more than 25 years in patient care, I’ve worn many hats—working in trauma ICU, home health, primary care, and aesthetic medicine. Each role has taught me something new about people, healing, and the ever-changing landscape of healthcare. Perhaps the most enduring lesson is that health is deeply personal, and true care must be rooted in ethics, compassion, and knowledge.
My journey has not been without challenges. One of the most difficult aspects of my career has been watching patients be denied essential care due to insurance limitations. Navigating these roadblocks has deepened my resolve to advocate for patients and champion systemic change where I can.
My core belief is simple yet powerful: that ethical, high-quality care is a right, not a privilege. I am equally passionate about educating and empowering the next generation of healthcare professionals. By sharing what I’ve learned, I hope they can build on this foundation and forge even better ways to care for people. If there’s one thing I hope people remember about me, it’s that I contributed knowledge and experience not as an end—but as a beginning—for others to go further. My life and work are guided by a personal motto: Wellness Redefined. To me, that means breaking old boundaries, reimagining healthcare delivery, and never settling for less than what people truly need and deserve.
