Kat Toups, MD is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, a Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association (the highest honor bestowed by the APA), and a certified practitioner with the Institute for Functional Medicine.
Dr. Toups is a Functional Medicine psychiatrist, clinical researcher, and thought leader in the field of cognitive health. She has been a featured speaker at national and international medical conferences on dementia and functional medicine psychiatry, as well as a frequent guest on podcasts and summits. She is also the author of several chapters in medical textbooks.
Her specialty is reversing dementia using a multi-modal Precision Medicine approach. She recently collaborated with Dr. Dale Bredesen as the Principal Investigator on a prospective clinical trial using a functional medicine/precision medicine approach to reverse mild cognitive impairment and early dementia where 84% of patients showed improvement, including on their brain scans. The paper, “Precision Medicine Approach to Alzheimer’s Disease: Successful Pilot Project,” was published in the prestigious Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease in July 2022, along with 2 subsequent papers.
Dr. Toups is currently serving as the Principal Investigator on a larger randomized clinical trial using Precision Medicine for reversing MCI and early dementia which will be completed at the end of October 2025 and expected to be published in early 2026.
