Description

Josh Starbuck, MD is board-certified in internal medicine (ABIM) with additional training through the Institute for Functional Medicine and certification in peptide therapy through SSRP. He is the founder and physician at Makena Health, a concierge longevity and longevity medicine practice in Wailea, Maui.

Dr. Starbuck spent six years as a hospitalist on Maui before starting Makena Health, and that time in acute care shaped how he thinks about prevention. Most of what he saw in the hospital was downstream of decisions made years earlier, decisions nobody flagged as urgent at the time because nothing hurt yet. That's the gap he built his practice to close.

His clinical focus sits at the intersection of conventional internal medicine and longevity-oriented functional medicine: hormonal optimization, metabolic and cardiovascular risk reduction, advanced diagnostics, and long-term healthspan planning for patients who want more than an annual physical and a pat on the back.

Dr. Starbuck works with a small number of patients directly, which means care plans are built around a person's actual physiology and goals rather than a population average. For patients looking for a physician who treats prevention as seriously as treatment, that's the work he does.
