Joseph A. Russo MD is a board-certified, Harvard-trained plastic surgeon with more than 30 years of experience in private practice outside Boston. A pioneer in non-surgical aesthetic medicine, he helped advance early laser technologies in the late 1990s and was among the first physicians in the Northeast to adopt cosmetic neurotoxins and dermal fillers.
Recognizing the growing demand for minimally invasive treatments, Dr. Russo expanded his surgical practice to include nurse injectors, laser technicians, and aestheticians. He created one of the earliest comprehensive cosmetic centers of its kind—a model that would later become known as the modern medical spa. He founded Aesthetic Mentor, where he has trained more than 3,000 healthcare providers through his “Safe Injector Method,” a teaching approach designed to help clinicians become safe, effective, and compliant aesthetic practitioners.
Dr. Russo also partnered with Regis College School of Nursing to develop the Aesthetic Intensive® Certificate Program, a first-of-its-kind program combining online education with robust clinical training to help licensed medical professionals launch or advance careers in medical aesthetics.
