Description

Dr. Joseph Perlman earned his undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and his M.D. degree from Brown University. He completed residency in General and Vascular Surgery from Baylor College of Medicine in 1981 and residency in Plastic Surgery from Baylor in 1984. Dr. Perlman also completed fellowships in Microsurgery and Hand Surgery. His practice is now limited to cosmetic surgery, including performing over 600 facelifts in the last 10 years. Dr. Perlman has been one of Houston’s Top Docs numerous times, and voted one of the top 3 cosmetic breast surgeons by his peers. He was a physician for the 1988 US Olympic Team at the Summer Games in Seoul.

  • Dr. Perlman is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), which is the most prestigious society to which board-certified plastic surgeons can be elected.
  • Dr. Perlman is also a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
  • Dr. Perlman is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) and The American Board of Surgery (ABS), and he has a certificate of added qualifications in hand surgery.

The ABPS is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties to certify doctors in the specialty of plastic surgery. ABPS-certified plastic surgeons are qualified to perform surgery on the face and all areas of the body. They complete a minimum of five years of surgical training following medical school, including an accredited plastic surgery residency program.

In addition to having an extensive cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery practice, Dr. Perlman treats a significant number of hand injuries and related problems. He has served as an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Plastic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and has been a consultant to Ben Taub Hospital in hand surgery.

Dr. Perlman’s reputation in sports medicine earned him the designation of team physician for the U.S.A. Boxing Team since 1980, and U.S. physician for the 1987 Pam Am Games. He also has the distinction of being a member of the 1988 U.S. Olympic Team as one of five physicians chosen from over 400 applicants to care for the entire team and staff during the Summer Games in Seoul, Korea.

Dr. Perlman was the Medical Consultant for the Houston 2012 Olympic Games Bid. He is a member of the International Council of Motorsports Sciences, The International Association of Olympic Medical Offices, The US Olympic Sports Medicine Committee, and the Texas Boxing Commission.

Dr. Perlman’s achievements and service to the Northwest Houston community are significant: Past Chairman of Houston NW Chamber of Commerce Community Health Committee; Women Helping Women Board of Directors; and Helping Hand Foundation Chairman. He also serves on the Breast Cancer Advisory Committee of Houston NW Medical Center.
