Dr. Jessika Jahnsen is a General and Functional Dentist, entrepreneur, and founder of Boston Smiles, a modern dental practice located in the heart of Boston. Raised in both Peru and Argentina, she developed an early appreciation for diverse cultures, community, and the importance of accessible healthcare. She earned her dental degree from the National University of Rosario in Argentina before continuing her professional journey in the United States, where she received her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from Boston University.
Before establishing her private practice, Dr. Jahnsen spent many years working in public health throughout Massachusetts, providing dental care to underserved populations. This experience profoundly shaped her philosophy of care and reinforced her belief that quality healthcare should be accessible, compassionate, and focused on prevention. Working with diverse communities allowed her to develop a deep understanding of the social, economic, and behavioral factors that influence oral health outcomes.
Throughout her career, Dr. Jahnsen has combined clinical excellence with an entrepreneurial mindset. Prior to founding Boston Smiles, she founded Nativa Designs, a jewelry company for which she served as CEO and lead designer. Under her leadership, the brand grew into a nationally distributed business, with products sold throughout the United States. This experience strengthened her passion for innovation, creativity, and building meaningful connections with people—qualities that continue to shape her approach to patient care and business leadership.
With a deep commitment to prevention and patient-centered care, Dr. Jahnsen believes that the foundation of long-term health begins with education, early intervention, and empowering patients to take an active role in their well-being. Throughout her career, she has cared for patients of all ages, from infants to older adults, and has developed a special passion for pediatric dentistry. Her youngest patient was just seven months old, reflecting her belief that healthy habits and preventive care should begin as early as possible.
As her understanding of health evolved, Dr. Jahnsen expanded her training into Functional
Dentistry, an approach that recognizes the powerful connection between oral health and overall systemic health. Through this lens, she helps patients understand that oral hygiene alone is not always enough to achieve optimal health. Functional Dentistry considers the broader factors that influence wellness, including sleep quality, stress management, nutrition, gastrointestinal health, inflammation, and the balance of the oral and gut microbiome. By identifying root causes rather than simply treating symptoms, Dr. Jahnsen strives to support her patients in achieving lasting health outcomes.
Dr. Jahnsen demonstrated resilience and entrepreneurial vision when she opened Boston Smiles during the COVID-19 pandemic. Today, the practice provides comprehensive care, including general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, dental implants, and functional dentistry, all delivered through a whole-person approach to health.
Beyond dentistry, Dr. Jahnsen serves as President of Argentinos en Boston, a nonprofit
organization dedicated to promoting Argentine culture and fostering connection, support, and fellowship within the Argentine community in Greater Boston.
Outside of her professional life, she enjoys Pilates, singing, painting, and long walks. She is a devoted mother and dog owner who believes that wellness is built through balance, meaningful relationships, lifelong learning, and a strong sense of community.
Through her clinical work, entrepreneurial leadership, and community involvement, Dr. Jahnsen continues to advocate for a preventive and integrative approach to healthcare, helping patients achieve healthier smiles and healthier lives.
