Erich Goetzel, MD, MA, LAc, IFMCP

  Erich Goetzel MD, MA, LAc is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and NCCAOM Board Certified in Acupuncture.  Dr. Goetzel was born and raised in Vienna, Austria.  He worked as a licensed family physician in Vienna before moving to New York City to complete a second residency in Psychiatry, a fellowship in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry and training in Interpersonal Psychoanalysis.  Since 2002, he has led Massachusetts’ first Progressive Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) Teams as well as multiple outreach and community treatment efforts.  As an independently licensed Acupuncturist and graduate of the Institute of Functional Medicine’s inaugural class, Dr. Goetzel's mission has been to integrate Functional Medicine, Acupuncture and Lifestyle Medicine into his clinical work with psychiatric patients.

  In 2010, Dr. Goetzel was appointed Medical Director of Eliot Human Services-- one of Massachusetts' largest social service non-profit agencies with a multidisciplinary staff of 1800 professionals serving over 20,000 adults, children and families each year.  In this role, Dr. Goetzel oversees over 100 community treatment programs including psychiatric outpatient clinics, supported housing projects, crisis stabilization units and homelessness services.  Under Dr. Goetzel’s leadership, Eliot became the first agency of its kind to offer outpatient Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) treatments to a broader patient population in Massachusetts.  His most recent project focuses on integrating an affordable, Functional Medicine approach into a busy psychiatric community clinic serving primarily low-income individuals and families.   

  In addition to his work with Eliot, Dr. Goetzel runs a private Functional Medicine & Integrative Psychiatry practice.
