Description

Dr. David Ozog is an academic dermatologist and physician-scientist whose work bridges clinical innovation, regenerative medicine, and translational research. He serves as Chair of the Department of Dermatology at Henry Ford Health in Detroit, Michigan, where he oversees one of the largest dermatology programs in the United States, including over 30 dermatologists, 21 residents, and a thriving research division.

Dr. Ozog’s career has centered on improving wound healing, minimizing scarring, and understanding the cellular and molecular drivers of skin regeneration. As a Mohs micrographic surgeon and procedural dermatologist, he has pioneered treatments that combine traditional surgical techniques with emerging modalities, such as photobiomodulation (PBMt), botulinum toxin for scar modulation, fractional lasers, and injectable agents that affect fibrosis pathways including TGF-β and SMAD signaling. His team is currently investigating systemic and topical interventions—including metformin, nicotinamide, and red/near-infrared light therapy—for their ability to alter the scarring trajectory and promote regenerative outcomes.

Beyond dermatology, Dr. Ozog has a strong interest in the application of regenerative principles to neuromuscular and systemic recovery. Motivated in part by personal family experience with neurologic rehabilitation, he has expanded his translational focus to include functional restoration through muscle stimulation, vibratory feedback, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and selective peptide use. He is actively exploring the clinical utility of agents such as BPC-157 and growth hormone secretagogues, as well as non-invasive technologies like focused shockwave and electromagnetic stimulation for musculoskeletal and neurologic applications.

Under his leadership, the department has developed a novel scar research model using controlled wound sites and tissue analytics to evaluate anti-scarring therapies. His research group is also advancing AI-driven pathology, spatial transcriptomics, and digital imaging to better characterize tissue response and optimize intervention timing.

Dr. Ozog is committed to evidence-based, mechanism-informed approaches that go beyond aesthetics to address human resilience, recovery, and long-term healthspan. While he does not accept cosmetic referrals, his work intersects meaningfully with A4M’s mission: to prevent disease, optimize function, and promote longevity through science-backed innovation.

He has authored and contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and national presentations in dermatologic surgery, regenerative interventions, and translational scar research. He serves as a mentor to physicians, residents, and scientists, and is currently involved in multi-institutional collaborations aimed at defining the next frontier of scarless wound healing and functional tissue regeneration.

Dr. Ozog joined A4M in January 2025 to further engage with its thought leaders, deepen his understanding of systemic regenerative strategies, and contribute to shaping the medical science of anti-aging through a dermatologic and procedural lens.
