Module V: A Metabolic and Functional Approach to Nutrition and Exercise, spearheaded by James LaValle, RPh, CCN, MS, focuses on critical lifestyle habits needed to maintain health and vitality through the aging process: namely, successful diet and exercise programming. Strategies of dietary nutrition will be explored, in addition to training and supplementation that can be applied for to both beginners and the overstrained athlete, with an emphasis on how to lower risks for injury, loss of lean mass and risks of overtraining. All lecture material will be reinforced with active learning techniques, including the presentation of case studies, active participation in exercise prescription, using a glucometer for managing weight and identifying food tolerance, and visual learning experiences with diet and guidelines.
