In spite of discovering Functional medicine in 2009, and instantly recognizing that it was the medicine of the future, it still took a frustrating few years converting a busy conventional GP practice to a Functional Medicine practice.

After spending countless hours reading, listening and attending seminars far and wide, in my spare time, I slowly became more confident. Often patients would find me before I thought I was ready for them, yet I found my patients becoming the biggest driver of my passion and knowledge as I both learnt for them, and from them.

I completed IFM’s first 2-year introductory course in South Africa in 2012. I continued studying with the IFM and was one of the first South Africans to stay awake for 3 days to attend the livestream of the IFM Hormone Modules in 2013 broadcast live from Las Vegas.

Between poor internet, 9-hour time difference, and a $2000 entry ticket, I knew that more would have to be done if we were going bring this education to South Africa.

This is when I started turning my focus to finding a solution to doing just that, at a price that would be affordable for South Africans.

In 2017 I switched to the A4M online learning platform.

I have completed all 8 modules of the Fellowship in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine.

This was more focused on medical practitioners and accredited by the George Washington University medical school.

I hope to have completed my final examination by the end of 2020.

I feel I represent a growing number of disgruntled and frustrated doctors who realize that we are not doing enough for our patients and their chronic disease. We confront huge obstacles in acquiring the skills necessary to make the changes so desperately needed in our thinking and approach. Like many, I could not put my life on pause to study full time, and for many years experienced the frustration of squeezing extra study time out of an already bursting schedule.

I currently spend much of my life trying to rewire endocrine systems and resurrect ailing metabolic processes.

I am privileged to be part of the process of partnering with many broken people; rebuilding their body, mind and soul.
