Module X: Intensive Hands-On Advanced Venous Treatments

Module Prerequisite: This course requires successful completion of a basic hands-on procedural course in sclerotherapy as well as a minimum three months injection experience for consideration

Upon completion of the module, the participant will:

  • Be proficient in conducting a thorough examination to detect venous insufficiency. This includes understanding patient expectations, predicting clinical outcomes, and effectively communicating this to patients. All necessary clinical forms and protocols for pre procedural care, post procedural care, patient education, procedural documentation, and patient consent will be reviewed and made available
  • Identify pertinent venous anatomy and function on live patients and understand how to treat the affected veins to achieve a successful clinical and aesthetic result, as well as the determination of invasive intervention
  • Perform physical diagnostic testing for venous disease including continuous wave Doppler, photoplethysmography (PPG), and duplex ultrasound examinations on live patients in order to provide correct diagnosis and treatment plan
  • Review the risk and benefits of light-based devices utilized in endovenous laser ablation
  • Participate in interactive demonstrations of endovenous laser ablation treatments and ambulatory phlebectomy on live models performed by venous experts
  • Perform endovenous laser ablation and ambulatory phlebectomy treatments on live models with an aesthetic expert instructor to achieve competency in best practices for venous consultations, treatment planning, and post procedural care
  • Perform ultrasound-guided sclerotherapy on live models with an expert instructor to achieve competency and best practices
  • Review all aspects of operative set-up, including equipment and regulatory aspects, as well as the forms and operative reports required for invasive venous interventional treatments
  • Understand importance of compression therapy post procedure for successful surgical outcomes
