Description

Using a case-based, didactic, and small-group approach, attendees will learn how to evaluate and treat patients with memory loss: including the use of MRI, FDG, and amyloid PET scans. Lectures will focus on ways to differentiate memory systems of the brain, and how they specifically impact different aspects of functioning. Sessions will further emphasize tools such as the MoCA and AD8 to diagnose patients, and best practices to determine when to consider uncommon disorders such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy, Lewy body disease, frontotemporal dementia, primary progressive aphasia, posterior cortical atrophy, progressive supranuclear palsy, primary age-related tauopathy, and others. Instructors will demonstrate how to treat patients with FDA-approved medications, evidence-based diets, and different types of exercise. This module will also emphasize ways to strengthen memory through clinical strategies and memory aids, in addition to handling unwanted behaviors through both non-pharmacologic and pharmacologic approaches.
