Anti-Aging Conference April 2013 Module I A

Course Objectives

This module provides a functional overview of hormonal changes that manifest in men and women with aging, including the functions and interplay of specific hormones in the body. It discusses how best to identify, test for and treat hormonal deficiencies and dysfunctions, such as with hormone replacement and medication compounding.

Pamela Wartian Smith, M.D., MPH

Dr. Smith spent her first twenty years of practice as an emergency room physician with the Detroit Medical Center. She is a diplomat of the Board of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Physicians and is an internationally known speaker and author on the subject of Metabolic, Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine. She has been featured on CNN, PBS, and other television channels, she has been interviewed in numerous consumer magazines, and has hosted her own radio show. She is currently the Director of the Center for Healthy Living and Longevity and the founder and Director of The Fellowship in Metabolic, Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine. Dr. Smith is also the director of the Master’s Program in Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine at the University of South Florida School of Medicine.

Andrew Heyman, M.D.

Dr. Heyman has been involved in the field of Anti-Aging and Functional Medicine for the past twenty years, first as a certified shiatsu practitioner. He received formal training in Five element Shiatsu from the Meridian Institute in Pennsylvania.  He received his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School, and was the first resident to complete a combined family medicine and Integrative/Functional Medicine residency though the Department of Family Medicine. Currently, he is on faculty at the University of Michigan Department of Family Medicine as an Adjunct Assistant Professor dedicated to teaching young doctors in training about the benefits of anti-aging medicine. Dr. Heyman has been an invited speaker around the country on various medical topics, notably to the CDC, Martha Stewart Living Magazine, Natural Health Magazine, newspapers and other media. He currently sits as the national clinical chair for the Consortium of Academic Integrative Health Centers, a 30 member University-based organization dedicated to advancing natural therapies in academic medical centers. He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his Anti-Aging medical practice.
Sahar Z. Swidan, Pharm.D., BCPS

Sahar Z. Swidan is the President & CEO of both Pharmacy Solutions and NeuroPharmacology Consultants, Inc. in Ann Arbor, MI. She is a board certified pharmacotherapy specialist working in the field of chronic pain management. She is also the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist on the inpatient Head-Pain Unit at Chelsea Comm. Hospital, and is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pharmacy at the Univ. of MI.
Patrick Hanaway, M.D.

Dr. Hanaway is a board-certified family physician with his Medical Degree from Washington University and residency training at the University of New Mexico. Dr. Hanaway is Past President of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine and co-founded Family to Family: Your Home for Whole Family Health with his wife in Asheville, NC. He has been initiated as a Marakame (Shaman) by the Huichol people in the Sierra Madres of central Mexico. Dr. Hanaway teaches extensively on ‘good medicine’, in its many applications. His interests are in systems-medicine research and the clinical application of nutritional biochemistry, with an emphasis on digestion, immunology, prevention and wellness.
James L. Wilson,N.D., D.C., Ph.D.

Dr. Wilson is the Director of Research at Immunogenics Company of America in Tuscon, AZ; President of Future Formulations in Tuscon, AZ; author of Adrenal Fatigue: The 21 st Century Stress Syndrome.
